UPCOMING MOVIES – Sept. ’09

Upcoming Movies – Sept. ’09

A new batch of trailers coming your way from JT Film Review! Just to clarify, this is not a list of My Eagerly Anticipated movies or anything, just an observation of what we see coming to us in the future. Though some of them of course I will look forward to seeing. In no particular order, here is the Upcoming Movies Article, September ’09 edition.

—– Fantastic Mr. Fox —–

With Wes Anderson directing, and the voice talents of Geroge Clooney, Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Adrian Brody, Brian Cox, Michael Gambon, etc it certainly looks like a hit. However I’m still a bit iffy about the look of the particular stop motion animation used here. If that was the look Wes was going for then I guess we should hope for the best. Otherwise… I dunno.

wolfmanposter—– The Wolfman —–

Benicio del Toro seems an obvious choice for the role of the Wolfman, and Anthony Hopkins as his father seems very interesting. The atmosphere (of the trailer anyway) is pitch-perfect, portraying the doom, gloom, and melancholy melodrama that such a story would need. And Hugo Weaving, who brings so much to all of his roles, is wonderfully cast as a Scotland Yard investigator. I personally am very optimistic about this movie.

youth-in-revolt

—– Youth in Revolt —–

Based on the book of the same name, Youth in Revolt is about a 16 year old boy who meets the girl of his dreams, but finds it harder than anticipated to woo her. He invents an alternate personality, named Francois, to help him through the process. This movie looks like the perfect vehicle for Michael Cera’s particular brand of humour, and the rest of the cast (Jean Smart, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Zach Galifianakis, etc.) seem like they could balance Cera’s wackieness well.

fourthkind

—– The Fourth Kind —–

An extremely disturbing looking movie, The Fourth Kind deals with alien abduction. Even if, as some claim, the “previously unseen documentary footage” has been faked, it still looks like a very creepy movie. Milla Jovovich stars, and while she is not exactly known for her great movies (Resident Evil etc.) we can always hope.

—– The Informant! —–

Matt Damon, seemingly channeling his inner William H. Macy, stars in The Informant!, the new Steven Soderbergh movie. The trailer proudly proclaims “From the Director of Ocean’s 11, 12, and 13!” and we can clearly see that this is Soderbergh in comedy mode rather than Traffic or Che mode. A flick that looks to be fast and fun, I can’t wait! Oh, and Buster from TV’s Arrested Development is in it!

avatar_LG—– Avatar —–

James Cameron’s self-proclaimed “game changer” of a movie finally gets a trailer. And…… ??? Okay it looks better than most sci-fi movies we’ve seen but… ??? This is the movie people were essentially calling the Second Coming of film, a New Age, etc. The effects look okay for the most part, and the military aspects look cool, but… do I smell the faint stench of an awkward, cliché ridden love story ala Titanic? Check it out for yourself.

carriers_movie_poster—– Carriers —–

Oh, I love a good post apocalyptic zombie movie, i.e. 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, even I Am Legend. Will this one belong in such company? Umm… maybe. It could go either way with this one I think. On the plus side, it’s got Chris Pine (who will be BIG one day, I’m sure of it. He’s getting there now) and it has a cool zombie infection story. On the negative side, the girl who says “They’ll die out there” in the trailer looks like a horrible actor, and lets face it, zombie movies have been done to death.

No Poster Released—– Inception —–

I wish I could tell you what this movie is about. All you need to know really is that it’s directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Memento, The Prestige, Insomnia) and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe, and many others. Oh, and according to Nolan, it’s a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind”. Whatever the heck that means. Just watch the trailer. It’s intriguing, to say the least.
